The Monopoly thing was pretty crazy. The documentary on the scandal was pretty wild - I think Crockett and Tubbs cracked open the case!

Ingredients note: the Kid was a great watch - I can appreciate his diet! There was a sequel, of sorts, that captures his most recent efforts. As for a song that I can escape - First Aid Kits cover of “America” - they are quite good. Enjoy Japan.

Hahaha -- glad you (mostly!) liked Alas, Babylon. I first read it as a kid, when I was a big fan of happily-ever-afters. And these days, I've come back to appreciating a little optimism in my art. It also taught me important life lessons (leave the gold, take the LMNT).

I thought there were some really prescient passages that applied directly to today, also just how sad that nothing much changes. The same conflicts back then are the same ones happening today.

Marlboro miles- the good ol’ days. My husband bartended so he’d scoop up all the discarded Marlboro boxes at the end of his shift. We still have 2 duffle bags, which held a lot, a denim jacket and a smaller backpack. I have to say they were well constructed and I’d still use them if smoking was still cool. Lol. I love the smell of a Winston ciggy. My Dad smoked them and it is oddly comforting if I catch a whiff of one. Enjoy your Japan trip. As you know it is magical. I would def go back.

I've descended into an eBay rabbit hole of Marlbolo team adventure gear and Camel Trophy watches and print ads for the last few months. Was it predatory and problematic marketing? Sure. But man, that merch is cool.

Yowza, this brought back memories of the Marlboro-branded sleeping bags my Mom got us by way of cashing in her Miles. Had not thought about those in a lonnnnnnnng time.
