To put it simply: sports builds character. Following and committing to a team through its ups and downs, championships/rebuilds, requires mental fortitude.

Sorry to hear of Ace's passing but thank you for sharing a bit about him with us. What a human.

Also, I smiled big at the Christian Laettner/Duke memory (I'm a lifetime Blue Devil/Coach K fan). The shot yes, but the image of Thomas Hill putting his hands on his head and crying like a baby is permanently seared into my mind.

Thanks, Mario. And the Thomas Hill reaction is priceless and sums up exactly how everyone felt at that moment, truly just stunned.

Early commercial lead: Michelob ultra! Laettner! One of the greatest college hoop players ever. Probably never see somebody like him again with the new college landscape. And, of course the O’s play in a division with one or maybe two of thee evil empires in baseball - Yankees and Sox. While not a fan of the team, I did enjoy them taking down Willie Stargell and the We Are Family pirates.

The rivalries abound in the AL East. In times of scarcity it's tough to be an O's fan, but in times of plenty, the taste of a pennant couldn't be sweeter.

I mostly watch motorcycle racing where 20 to 40 riders line up and some of them will never win, never. I used to have favourites but now I just want to see a good race. An exciting unpredictable finish is all the better. I race myself and occasionally win and it feels good but it’s especially good because it’s rare.

We do watch the Blue Jays, not baseball, just the Blue Jays and mostly just once or twice a year live. Unofficially since I didn’t think to keep stats, they win more when we are in the stadium. They could probably justify putting us on the payroll if we had time for a side gig.
