“It’s to be with them, even as I stand here closer to dying than I am to living, and to show them they can survive without me. To tend to the glowing ember inside of them, blow on it, feed it with kindling, build it into a fire that will burn through the night. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it.
To let them know they have my whole heart, they always did, that they’re the best guys and they always were. So that when it’s time to let go, I can, and I’ll know that they will carry the fire.”
I need to bottle this up and put it in my pocket forever.
It's super cool! I have not run it yet, but I've biked that stretch out and back. There's a lot of cool stuff about that stretch of road, apparently a European Formula 1 team bought a section at the end just for the tunnel because it simulates real-world race conditions in a vacuum (i.e. a real road but with zero wind or outside interference). Like, where else could you buy a two-mile long tunnel? It was all very secretive and for years people thought it was a government project.
This might be my favorite Suppertime so far. Great work. Also, I’m a little over halfway through Anxious Generation myself, and have already started recommending it to everyone I can. Very important read!
Length was better for sure this week. I love that you love being a dad! Also, you're living until at least 103, so I strongly disagree with the closer to the end statement.
I can’t read books like The Road or watch movies that portray a post apocalyptic world. Too upsetting to read, especially as a mother. Give me a good book about animals like Where the Red Fern Grows or Charlotte’s Web- although I’ll go through a box of Kleenex no problem.
This one's a banger (esp. The Main Course). Cheers, and happy Father's day 🍻
Thanks dude! Cheers to you as well.

Thanks brother, here's to being the best dads we can be.
Beautiful piece!
Thanks for reading!
Happy Father's Day. I had to Google how The Road ended because I will not be reading that. cry cry cry for sure. Until next week.
It's rough, but it's beautiful.
This was beautiful. Your writing can make me both sad and happy at the same time.
Appreciate you saying that, I feel like I find myself in the bittersweet range most of the time 😂
Ok I went digging and found The Road half marathon on the abandoned turnpike. That’s so rad.

Thanks man! The book is definitely a must-read for anyone with kids, if only to consider what you're putting into their hands at such a young age.

Thanks brother, and if I live 'til I'm 103 I'm taking up smoking again.
Oh definitely

My kids just finished Charlotte's Web, so maybe I need to go back and reread that to balance things out!
