This essay sits with me like few others have. The weight of your role in that Baltimore courtroom, the moral gravity you convey without flinching from complexity—it's a masterclass in sitting with uncomfortable truths. The way you honor both the process and the human lives entangled in it reveals why justice can never be as simple as headlines suggest. Thank you for writing with such unflinching integrity.

Thinking of Demetrius and his family - your words honor him in a small, but powerful way as we learn his name through your story. Thank you. Also, a big mazal tov to your brother and his new wife!

Almost too sad to read at work. Canadian here just not understanding how America can't reduce the number of guns floating around. Toronto has 6 times the population and we are panicked about a murder rate that peaked at less than half the Baltimore rate and we mostly blame it on guns smuggled up from the south.

p.s. in a world is small coincidence I was in Lisbon for a week last month. Now I can't see to go more than a few days without some reference to Portugal. The city alone was a great week and someday I'd be up for seeing more of the country. Including an almost daily 4 km run we walked 160 km that week.
