If you get a chance, read "Making It In America." A story about a Maine company setting out to do the same thing as Sandlin, make a product - in their case, a hoodie - completely in America. Very well-written story about the challenges of doing so, especially over the course of the last ten years.
Hey. Enjoyed this, as I’ve enjoyed each of your posts since we reconnected. Thanks for the heads up on Luke’s stuff. It’s probably been 5 years since he and I talked last.
I figured you wanted to be a marine biologist after listening to George Costanza's riveting story about saving a beached whale.
Seriously, good stuff! I've been reading more and more articles about how Gen Z is pushing back against being online all the time. They're deleting social media apps, buying dumb phones, and prayerfully getting back to the real you so eloquently described.
Concur with all that has been shared. We are in such an interesting time - not sure if it is a good time. One thing for sure that is happening as a result of this disconnected tumult is that those who have actually learned a skill such as plumbing and carpentry and engineering and automotive repair are starting to see their value and their rates increase because there are still things that actually require skilled individuals to fix and repair. And, unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer of these folks coming out of our high schools and trade schools. You could have a whole roundtable on the disconnectedness of our society and the ills as a result. And, in some cases, your sharing in Suppertime nails much of what we are seeing and experiencing. Like others, I am hopeful that succeeding generations help us find community again.
It has been YEARS since I've heard someone mention Voyage of the Mimi -- you just made my day with the nostalgia! Enjoyed this as always -- thanks for writing it!
Scratch under the surface .. the engineers, tinkerers and problem solvers are still there, remain optimistic .. evolution of our species might not wear uncle sams hat .. but who cares, the hamster wheel will continue to turn al we can do is our best to put solid foundations under our offspring .. so even as they go down modern rabbit holes .. they are informed.

I will definitely do that, thanks!

The Kramer hole in one sealed the deal. And yes, I have faith in the youth!
